The United State Department of Commerce has proposed banning the use of Chinese and Russian technology in ( Electric Vehicles ) smart vehicles on United State roads. If this government proposal is approved, the entry of Chinese Smart Vehicles into the United State market will be closed.
According to the international news agency “Reuters“, the information it received about the proposals under consideration of authority, when the implementation of the new rules begins, major United State automakers will have to remove Chinese software and hardware from their vehicles.
The proposal Department of Commerce, which came out on Monday, is actually being seen as a sign of a toughening of President Joe Biden’s stance on China. Earlier in February this year, he had announced that concerns such as obtaining information through the use of Chinese technology in Electric vehicles would be investigated.
The government of United State has cited national security concerns as the basis for the proposed ban.
Modern cars or Electric Vehicles (EV) are increasingly incorporating very strong electronic devices that are very easily connected to personal devices, all the other cars, United State infrastructure, electric vehicles (EV) and self driving vehicles like Tesla cars. The rules brought before the Government of Commerce Department cover software and hardware that connect vehicles to the outside world.
“Through suspicious access to these systems, our competitors could obtain sensitive information and remotely control electric vehicles on United State of American roads,” says the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security.
The government of United State of America has not specified which kind of manufacturers or models will be covered by the new rules. The public can express their feeling and opinion on these proposed rules and regulations for the next 30 days.
China warned on Monday that the United State should refrain from “discriminatory measures” against its firms, following reports of the ban.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said China opposes the United States of America expansion of the concept of US national security and discriminatory measures against Chinese companies and products.
The American Automotive Policy Council, the three major United State of American car manufacturers, General Motors, Ford, and Stellar, has not yet commented on the major issue.
This September, the President Joe Biden administration announced a 100 percent tariff on Chinese electric vehicle (EV) imports. Apart from this, tariffs of billions of dollars were also imposed on Chinese vehicles. China reacted too strongly to these kind of measures.
Of course these concerns also apply to all kind of vehicles that are assembled in the United States of America.
A preliminary study found that the use of Electric Vehicles (EV) software developed by Russia and China in the United State supply chain is nominal.
However, according to officials, the hardware and software supply chain is “too much complex” as Chinese devices are in circulation in very large numbers.
As a result of the United States of America Commerce Department’s proposed ban, may be the hardware cannot be banned before 2029. May be the ban on software will be possible until the beginning of 2027. Highly recommended information for this story and article was taken from Reuters and AFP.
